Please note that IPL is not a laser.  IPL stands for Intense Pulsed-Light therapy where it uses pulsed white light (multiple wavelength of light combined as one) and targets certain areas on the skin surface.

Laser is a light beam that has one specific (single) wavelength.  Different wavelengths are used in specific skin conditions.

Please make sure the therapist understands the difference between Laser and IPL.  It is also important that the therapist understands how to operate the machine.

ALWAYS ask for a TEST PATCH on your skin.

IPL is NOT SUITABLE FOR ASIAN or darker skin tone (Type III - VI) due to a condition known as
Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).

A Hong Kong Board registered Medical doctor who specializes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology has found himself in deep waters.  He is trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (women's health) with no formal qualifications in Plastic Surgery.  On 1st May 2010, he performed a breast augmentation (enlargement) surgery to a 24-year-old female patient in his rooms.

His consulting room is located in a commerical building in Jordan, Kowloon.  He stated that after injecting 20 ml of xylocaine, the patient developed generalized seizure soon after he made a 2 cm incision.  She developed breathing difficulties and became unconscious.  She is now in a medical induced coma and admitted in Intensive care in a critical condition.

Recently, there has been a lot of specialists converted themselves to perform cosmetic surgery.  As there are no proper training program or legislation, this has become a booming industry.  The standard of these doctors are questionable and  I do fear for the safety of vulnerable patients.

This case illustrates several factors which are of great concerns to the general public.  Surely, the training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology does not include plastic surgery for breast augmentation.  To be performing a breast augmentation in his consultation rooms with questionable sterilization and resuscitation equipments is potentially, a deadly mistake.

In Australia, a registered medical doctor is insured to perform certain procedures based on their qualifications.  In order to uphold the standards of all doctors, the AMA and Medical Board Australia work in union with all Specialty Training Colleges.

Please choose a reputable and fully qualified cosmetic practitioner carefully.  If you are not sure, please don't hesitate to inquire about their qualifications.
You have nothing to lose!
