What is Sclerotherapy for Spider veins?
PLEASE NOTE:
DUE TO AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CLIENTS AND PATIENTS, DR LOUISA WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO PERFORM DIRECT VISION SPIDER VEIN TREATMENTS. THIS IS MAINLY DUE TO RESTRICTED TIME AVAILABILITY AT EACH CLINIC. SHE IS HAPPY TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE CONSULTATIONS FOR THESE CLIENTS AND REFER THEM TO THE RIGHT SPECIALISTS.
Spider veins are abnormal dilatation of small blood vessels. These vessels are located very close to the surface of the skin and they branches into different shapes and size. Most clients like to have these veins treated for cosmetic reasons.
Spider veins can occur in various parts on the body. Dr Louisa offers injectable treatment of spider veins in lower limbs / LEGS only. For facial spider veins, she recommends her clients to try laser treatment first.
Dr Louisa has attended numerous workshops with The Australian College of Phebology. Sclerotherapy is a treatment where a
medication (sclerosant) is injected directly to the spider veins, causing them to
collapse and eventually disappear. The client is assessed and in order
to do so, Dr Louisa may refer a client for formal ultrasound of the
legs. In the event that varicose veins are found, she will refer you
to a specialist for further treatment. There is no point treating spider veins
without treating the underlying problem.
If you are a good candidate for
sclerotherapy, Dr Louisa will measure the size of your leg(s) so she
can order the compression stockings for you. You must wear it at all
times for 5-7 days depending on the size and area of the veins. The
spider veins will recur if you do not apply the stockings. Gravity
will make the veins open up again.
Dr Louisa will discuss with you in detail how the procedure is perform, what to do prior and after the treatment.
